At Innovative Endurance we
believe that consistency and
periodization can take an
athlete beyond what they
ever believed. We emphasize
the use of perceived
exertion, heart rate and
wattage measuring to
evaluate an athletes fitness
and personalize their
workouts. IE programs are
soundly developed based on
several principles that Greg
has researched and developed
for several years.
Consistency-
It is imperative to make
your sport part of your life
in such a way that you
welcome it and it has a
healthy balance with family,
work and life. Being burned
out or stressed physically
or mentally only detracts
from your long term ability
to improve.
Patience and
Recovery-
Athletes must be patient and
trust that there is a reason
for everything. Furthermore
rest is often shunned or
overlooked, when in truth
your true improvements don’t
come during hard workouts
but later when you allow
your body to absorb them.
Periodization-
Building your phases during
the year. We don’t say how
long one phase lasts because
it depends on the athlete,
their goals and their
history. Each athlete
progresses through several
phases of development to
culminate in their best
racing.
Strength and
Flexibility-
Flexibility allows you to
literally be at your full
range of motion. Not only
does it reduce injury but
makes you more efficient and
more biomechanically sound.
Strength offers the athlete
the chance meet their full
potential while also staying
off injuries.
Aerobic Base-
This is building the engine
so that you can be as strong
as possible. Without an
aerobic base you cannot take
full advantage of your
anaerobic capacity. This
base takes years to develop
and requires lots of
patience and consistency.
